DANNY Hylton admitted no-one in the Kassam Stadium was more relieved than him to see Chey Dunkley open the scoring for Oxford United.

The forward fired three decent openings wide during a goalless first half against Wycombe Wanderers.

United needed a win to secure automatic promotion, so Hylton was grateful his misses did not prove crucial, with Dunkley’s header paving the way for a 3-0 victory.

He said: “We had a few chances in the first half, myself especially, and it kept just going the other side of the post.

“We were just thinking ‘are we going to regret these missed chances?’

“But when big Chey came up, he is so good at attacking set pieces, and powered that in, there was no one more relieved than me.

“I think you could tell by the celebrations.”

Hylton came off to a standing ovation late on, complete with a black eye.

He said: Wycombe’s two centre backs are big boys, strong, quick, and we knew we were going to have to match them, hence the black eye.

“I’m just thankful the goals came.”
