Patrick Hoban scored all three goals as Oxford United's development side won 3-1 at Aston Villa this afternoon.

The Irish striker, who has netted twice in 33 appearances for the first team, starred in a strong line-up which included Chey Dunkley, Josh Ashby, Josh Ruffels and Alex MacDonald.

Hoban opened the scoring after good work from Sam Humphreys and AJ George.

Villa levelled, but when Humphreys was fouled in the area, Hoban despatched the penalty.

And he completed the hat-trick five minutes from time, running on to a pass from Josh Ruffels.

U's head coach Michael Appleton said: "Villa had a decent side out but you couldn't fault the attitude from our lads and full credit to everyone involved."

United: Stevens, Hawtin, Cundy, Dunkley, Trialist, Humphreys, Ashby (Hayden 80), Ruffels, MacDonald (Giles 70), Hoban, George.

United's under 18s also won 3-1 at Villa.

Canice Carroll, George Jeacock and Drew Ricketts found the net.
