ALL roads lead to Duncansfield tonight where Pollok are just 90 minutes away from winning their third Super Premier League title in five years.

If the Newlandsfield side can overcome hosts Kilsyth Rangers for a remarkable 16th consecutive league victory this term then they will hit the 52-point mark for an unassailable lead over championship rivals Auchinleck Talbot.

Keeping fingers crossed he will be drafted into the Rab Sneddon's line-up is striker Robert Downs, who was rested' along with Alan Waddell in Monday night's 5-3 defeat of Renfrew to allow Davie Turnbull and suspension- free Bryan Dingwall to stake claims for the forward line jerseys.

Downsy is keyed up at the prospect of securing his first Super Premier winner's medal after twice finishing in the runners-up spot as an Arthurlie player.

He said: "I'm no different to everyone else in our dressing room in desperately wanting to play tonight.

"This is what we have strived for all season and I would be gutted to miss out on the very game that could see us home and dry.

"But the squad strength and competition for places which have been such major factors behind us getting into this winning position could work against me.

"Dingy and Davie worked well as a partnership against Renfrew so both Alan and myself have to wait and see if our showings in the previous win over Glenafton will merit us getting the nod from Rab."

Downsy, in his second stint at Newlandsfield, is well used to the high expectation levels that will result in a massive travelling support making the journey through to Kilsyth in anticipation of a title party.

The Junior inter-national continued: "The pressure to consistently win trophies goes hand in hand with playing for a high-profile club like Pollok.

"The players realise it just as we learn to live with the fact that taking our scalp makes most other teams go that extra yard when playing against us.

"For that reason alone, I expect Kilsyth to make it tough, and more so seeing as they are battling for points themselves to avoid the relegation play-off.

"Auchinleck cannot afford to slip up in their game (home to Arthurlie), but we are not thinking about them as tonight is all about what we do."

As ever, boss Sneddon is cautious about his team's chances of landing the trophy, especially with Richie Newall and Gary Wilson struggling to overcome leg knocks.

He said: "A big performance is needed. We cannot take anything for granted against Kilsyth, who gave us a really hard time of it in a 3-3 draw at our place."

Home team gaffer and former Lok stalwart Dunky Sinclair said: "Good luck to Pollok if they go on and win the title, but they'll need to play a bit to do so at our expense.

"We have everything to play for ourselves in terms of avoiding a play- off and I don't want our survival dependant on winning our final league game against Neilston on Saturday."

Meanwhile, supporters of Neilston and Petershill should note that tonight's scheduled Super Premier encounter at Brig O'Lea has been put back one week to Wednesday, May 16.

It's understood that West Region secretary Scott Robertson agreed to a postponement request from Peasy officials who claimed their club would be seriously disadvantaged if asked to play a 10th game in 22 days before this weekend's Whyte and Mackay Cup finale against a rested-up Kilbirnie Ladeside. THE funeral of Tony Ward will take place at Linn Crematorium, Lainshaw Drive, Glasgow, on Friday at 10am.

Tony played in goal for Dennistoun Waverley, Yoker and Baillieston. He also spent 12 years at Rutherglen Glencairn and played in their 1975 Junior Cup Final defeat by Glenrothes. Tough Evening ahead for Meadow

Evening Times Cup-Winners' Cup holders Irvine Meadow were today handed a tough first defence of their crown.

Boss Chris Strain and his players will be on their travels to meet either Auchinleck or Cumnock in one of two preliminary rounds, while Pollok or Clydebank await the visit of Petershill or Kilbirnie in the other.

If Meadow prevail, another Ayrshire opponent awaits in the quarter-finals.

Last eight draw: 1 - Ashfield v Ayrshire District League winners; 2 - Central Sectional League Cup winners or Whyte and Mackay Cup winners v Super Premier League winners. 3 - Rob Roy v Central League Cup winners; 4 - Ayrshire Cup winners v Rockware Glass Cup winners or Irvine Meadow.

Semi-final pairings of 2 v 3 and 4 v 1 set up the likelihood of another Ayrshire v Central District finale.
