A young mother was in a seriously ill condition last night after being attacked by a girl gang.

Laura Higgins, 18, was reportedly slashed on her arms and hands as she tried to defend herself during the early morning assault in the west end of Glasgow.

The attack happened at 2am on Saturday in Henrietta Street, just two streets away from where a man tried to drag a woman into a car about 30 minutes earlier.

Witnesses said Ms Higgins, who has a baby daughter, was called over by a group of girls who then attacked her with a knife.

She was taken to the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, and later transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where her condition last night was described as serious but stable.
