July 26.

As a native of Tighnabruaich I read with interest A. F. Salisbury's

article (A head of steam doon the watter, July 24), but feel compelled

to put the record straight.

Tighnabruaich pier belonged to my great-grandparents, the Olding

family, and the piermaster mentioned as George Oldfield was in fact

George Olding, my great-uncle.

I am also pleased to relate that I, too, am the proud owner of a ship

in a bottle made by George Olding.
