JAMES Roberts has vowed to make the most of any chances which come his way at Burton Albion tomorrow after a costly miss in midweek.

The 18-year-old blasted over the crossbar seconds after coming on at Accrington Stanley, who went on to inflict a 1-0 defeat on Oxford United in stoppage time.

“I’ve watched it back, not only in my head but on the screen, a lot of times,” he said.

“It hit a bobble and I’m off balance. That’s still no excuse, I should be putting that in from six yards out, but that happens as a striker.

“You will miss easy chances and then you forget about it.

“I’m straight back on it and looking to put the next one in.”

It was virtually the first setback in the striker’s first season as a professional, which has yielded five goals already.

Roberts admitted misses went with the territory as a striker and is confident it will not be playing on his mind if an opening arises tomorrow.

He said: “It’s been all highs to be fair since I’ve come in, apart from the injuries.

“I was expecting a dip at some point.

“I’m not saying this is a dip in form but I’ve scored a couple of goals I’d like to keep in the memory bank for a while.

“I will have many more hopefully in my career, but I will miss many more as well.

“It’s important I remember the goals and forget the misses.

“It’s something I’ve got to get my head over and hopefully I come back positively.

“It’s a completely new game and you start each one fresh.

“If a chance like that comes at Burton, I’ll make sure I put it away.”
