Lewis faces media as search for Oxford United's new boss goes on

Banbury Cake: Caretaker boss Mickey Lewis Caretaker boss Mickey Lewis

MICKEY Lewis will take the routine pre-match press conference today amid increasing speculation surrounding Oxford United’s search for a permanent manager.

It is expected to be business as usual at Roman Way this morning, as the caretaker boss is preparing to pick the team for his 12th game in charge, at home to Hartlepool United tomorrow night.

Earlier this week, supporters’ trust OxVox called on U’s chairman Ian Lenagan to make a decision ahead of the game.

The Oxford Mail understands significant progress has been made behind the scenes this week, but it is looking increasingly unlikely anything will be in place before the weekend.

Both Accrington Stanley boss James Beattie and Paul Tisdale, Exeter City’s manager, have been linked, but there has been nothing official to give the rumours substance.

One person not in the running is Martin Allen, who figured prominently in the betting after Wilder’s exit.

The 48-year-old, who won the League Two title with Gillingham last season, was yesterday appointed for a fourth spell at Barnet.

Thank heavens Martin Allen is not in the frame anymore. I guess we will all be looking at the Directors box tomorrow to see if there are any interesting faces watching the game, if as we are led to believe significant progress has been made in the Manager search! Lets pray for a decent performance although I will take a boring 1-0 win at the moment.

Well done to OxVox for echoing the deep concerns we have about the complete lack of urgency. Keep up the good work!

If Paul Tisdale is appointed Manager I will seriously look to pay my gate money elsewhere, would save me a lot as I wouldn't have to do 320 mile trips to see home matches. He not doing anything at Exeter and is an arrogant and unlike able little oik. Not for me either James Beattie, far to inexperienced and I believe still hasn't got the necessary coaching certificates. It shows Martin Allens confidence that he has gone back to Barnet, he obviously thinks the Conference is the best place for his abilities.
