Oxford United expecting bumper crowd for Pompey visit

Banbury Cake: Oxford United expecting bumper crowd for Pompey visit Oxford United expecting bumper crowd for Pompey visit

OXFORD United are predicting a crowd in excess of 9,000 as they return to action against Portsmouth on Saturday – and we have five pairs of tickets up for grabs.

The U’s have suffered three postponements due to waterlogged pitches in the last week, but there are no concerns over the playing surface at the Kassam Stadium.

It is good news for the club, who are expecting a big crowd as they attempt to complete a first league double over Pompey since the 1975/76 season.

To enter, just answer the following question correctly: Which two players scored doubles when United won 4-1 at Portsmouth on the opening day of this season?

To enter, email your answer with an address and daytime contact telephone number to promotions@oxfordmail.co.uk by 4pm tomorrow (January 9).

You must be over 18 to enter, and usual Oxford Mail competition rules apply.

Hmmm the Marketing Department might have something to do with this Oxford Mail "headline" I suspect after the last two home results it wont be anywhere near 9000, although i hope it is to get some funds into the club.

Unless Pompey bring in excess of 4000 I can't see the gate being over 9000. On recent home form this game won't generate a large home gate, fans are getting dejected not only by the results but by performances too. Wilder David before Christmas that if we could repeat the first half seasons 41 points then we would at least be in the mix. That seems a big doubt to me at the moment, the players and management seem to have lost confidence as have we fans. The team doesn't suddenly go from good to bad but confidence , in Football in particular, is a huge thing and that confidence seems to have ebbed away, unlike the flooded pitch at Charlton, and this enforced delay won't help. Hopefully the result will go our way on Saturday, it certainly needs to!

We need to play a lot better to bring the Home fans. In these hard times who can afford to pay to watch our recent performances? I am sure that the Pompey fans will outnumber us. Still let's hope for the best.
Kitson will not be playing against the club paying his oustanding wages!!!
Still:

"COME ON YOU YELLOWS"

Looking at what Kidderminster have done in sacking Steve Burr as manager, if you draw the same comparison to Our Club then Wilder should be gone by now. That's sure to bring a whole load of thumbs down but just think about it, we are absolutely dreadful at home and even given the superb away record the Manager is no better away from home, the players just lift their game and the manager still hides in the dug out, those who doubt me please attend more away games and see for yourselves!

One song Pompey. Pompey one song.

Silence it yellows

How both clubs could do with young players like Pompey legend Mick Tait was when he started with us.
Happy days - those ones!.

Portsmouth have been allocated just 2300 tickets, they still have tickets available, so a crowd of more like 7000 looks realistic.

Why all this 'respect' for Pompey fans? I think we showed THEM how to support the team -at Fratton park!!
A lot of their travelling support are aggro merchants anyhow.

Despite seeing some of the worst 'Football' at home this season than we have seen for Donkey's- we will get behind the team, if not the manager.

My point Dave, at the moment our team is turning off the "fair weather" fans so even 7000 will be a big gate. I would love to see upwards of 7000 at every home game as it would mean the club are playing as well at home as they do away and it would boost the clubs coffers but sadly I can't see big gates returning unless home form improves dramatically. We can but live in hope.

If you have been to the home matches in that period- need you ask?

You only have to look at OUFC online ticket sales Map of ground it shows all seats that are available , South stand is pretty busy but it always is and rest of ground not too bad i reckon there will be about 8k unless loads turn up on the day but with Oxford traffic chaos causing headaches this might put people off
