Kevin Davis’s career has turned full circle after signing for London Welsh.

And now the former Oxford University student, who won a Blue in 2007, is hoping to make the most of his return to the city.

“I played in one Varsity Match and missed one through injury,” said Davis.

“I loved living in the city of Oxford. It is a beautiful place to live, there is lots of stuff to do. “I cherish the times I had here studying.

“A chance came to move back home and test myself in the Championship and I am looking forward to grasping it with both hands.

“I hope to go onwards and upwards with London Welsh this season.”

And with the Exiles increasing their presence in Oxford, Davis added: “I think moving back to somewhere you have lived before and had roots and connections is good.

“I spent two good years living here, so that makes the transition easier.” Davis initially played for Coventry after leaving Oxford University before moving to Australia where he was part of the Queensland Reds set up and played club rugby in Brisbane.

While in Australia, the 27-year-old switched from loosehead prop to hooker.

“A situation came up in a game where both hookers had been injured and I got thrown in at the deep end,” he said. “It went really well.

“I sat down with the coaches and thought that my skill set would work well in that position and I have never looked back since making that leap of faith.”

He would still be happy to play at prop if needed.

“It is like riding a bike I guess,” he said. “Once you master it, you don’t forget how to do it.”

Davis did not have long to settle into the Exiles’ squad after returning from Australia.

“I landed and two days later I was with the squad and training,” he said.

“I arrived slightly late to pre-season, but I had come off the back of playing in Australia.

“It is an absolutely great squad and they made me feel straight at home. Training has been a high standard – it has been really nice to come back into such a competitive environment.”
