DIVISION 5

THE league are to hold an inquiry into the circumstances that led to Abingdon Vale 2nd conceding their home Division 5 match to Leighton Buzzard 2nd.

The destination of the title depends on the outcome as Leighton will pip Great Brickhill if they are awarded the game.

If the match is deemed a draw, then Brickhill will be champions by a point. Jason Cardy (48), Chris Butcher (35) and Paul Butcher (31) set up Vale’s 196 all out, while Gareth Benger took 4-60.

Mark Burfoot’s 64 looked like taking Town to maximum points.

After a delay, Abingdon were given 70 minutes to bowl their final 20 overs.

At 7.30 – the time that all matches must finish under the rules of the league – there were still five overs remaining.

The umpires let the match continue, and with two overs left at 7.45, and darkness descending, Abingdon told the umpires it was too dangerous to continue play and conceded with the visitors on 183-6.

Once they have received both umpires’ reports, the league will adjudicate.
