OXON: A councillor will be in Parliament on Wednesday to call for a new railway to link Oxford to the east of the country.

David Robertson, deputy leader of Oxfordshire County Council, will attend the first meeting of the All Party Group for East West Rail in Westminster, where business leaders will be briefed on the plans.

The project would connect Reading, Oxford and Aylesbury with Milton Keynes and Bedford.

The Conservative-run council is working with the region’s MPs to push for the plan to be included in the Government’s 2014-19 railway investment programme.
