POLICE have confirmed they are investigating a collision in which North Oxfordshire MP Sir Tony Baldry lost control of his Mercedes car in Banbury.

Sir Tony lost control of his car and crashed into a shop, three other cars and a portable toilet on September 7.

He had parked his black Mercedes car in Banbury and at the time said the automatic vehicle had shot off when he bent down to pick up a dropped ticket.

Despite the MP trying to regain control, the car veered through the car park, took out a portable toilet, went over a small drop into a neighbouring road and then hit a wall of the Poundland store.

It then hit a parked van and three stationary cars before coming to a rest against a concrete pillar, a witness said.

No one was injured and Sir Tony is understood to have given a negative breath test to police. Breath tests are standard police procedure in crashes. A spokesman for Thames Valley Police yesterday said the crash was under investigation and officers are expected to release more information over the next few days.
