Police are looking for a person who may have been seriously injured in a crash shortly after 8am this morning.

The two-vehicle collision took place in Oxhey Hill in Cropredy, near Banbury. The road is currently closed.

Roads Policing officers were called to the scene but a man wearing a high visibility jacket is believed to have left.

The other driver was trapped inside his car after it became wedged on its side in the hedge following the crash.

He was cut out of the car and has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Fire crews called the rescue a 'highly challenging sitation'.

Sgt Mark Scully, from the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing, said: “I would like to trace the person who left one of the vehicles as soon as possible as he may have serious injuries which require medical attention.

“I would particularly appeal to anyone in the area of Cropredy and near the A423 to contact police if you see anyone matching the description of the man.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision should call 101 quoting URN 197 24/1.

Incident Commander, station manager Steve Anderson from Banbury Fire Station, said: “The two vehicles were badly damaged as a result of the impact and the position and stability of one of the vehicles created a highly challenging incident.

"The crews worked extremely hard to gain access to the casualty and successfully affect this rescue.

“This collision occurred on a rural road, in frosty and foggy conditions, the cause is not known at this time, but is being investigated by Thames Valley Police”.

Firefighters have issued a fresh warning to drivers to slow down in foggy conditions.
