BURST banks only meant one thing for an Oxfordshire pub owner this morning - a paddle round the grounds in his floating hot tub.

Armed with a glass of bubbly, owner of the Maybush Pub Simon White celebrate his inn's six month anniversary in the most glamorous way he could.

The Newbridge father hopped into his swimming trunks earlier today with partner Zoe and fellow staff members to take the tub out for a spin on the flooded pub ground, after heavy rain caused the River Thames to overflow.

Mr White, 37, who six weeks ago became a father for the first time to baby boy Billy, said: "The hot tub is something we offer to bed and breakfast guests who stay in the Shepherd's Hut. It does float on the lake but it is usually tethered to the dock.

"But we had to get in the canoe and paddle out to it this morning because of the floods. It was a bit surreal and a bit bonkers. We could not think of a better way to celebrate."

The Maybush is an eco-friendly pub and the hot tub is powered by wood and takes four hours to warm up.

Mr White added: "It was a serene day. It was like getting in the bath."
