RAIL disruptions across Oxfordshire could be called off as planned rail strikes are suspended amid union negotiations.

Network Rail workers could be in line for a two per cent pay rise as talks head into their fourth day of negotiations.

The RMT transport union members had planned to walk out from 5pm on Thursday and again the following week affecting services through Oxford including Chiltern Railways and First Great Western.

A spokesman for First Great Western said the strike would have a “significant impact” on their train service.

Both strikes have now been suspended as a two per cent pay rise for staff has been put forward for this year and assurance of no compulsory redundancies to the end of next year.

RMT is still to agree the offer and will meet later this week to make a decision whether to call off the strike action.
