Eighty-five guns were handed in to police stations across the county during a two-week surrender.

Thames Valley Police ran the Hand in the Gun campaign, which ended on December 8. People could hand in firearms and ammunition without worrying about being prosecuted, although guns suspected of being involved in crimes would be investigated.

The police station in St Aldate’s had nine weapons handed in, Abingdon had 60 and Banbury had 16. Police also received 127 lots of ammunition and a pre-war training grenade, given to Abingdon police.
