IT will be interesting to see if Thames Valley Police now resumes an investigation into solicitor Raymond Ridley.

The Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal ruled that he dipped into clients’ money for business and personal expenses for more than six years and struck him off.

He was arrested just over a year ago on suspicion of fraud and theft but then released without charge.

Yesterday the force was unable to say what it was planning to do but it will be pressed by at least one set of Ridley’s former clients, the Bucklands, to resume its investigation.

On the face of what has happened with the disciplinary tribunal, there would seem to be grounds to do so and let the rest of the justice system determine if offences have been committed.

The Bucklands and others have recouped their lost money through the Solicitors Indemnity Fund but that should not lead investigators to conclude no further consideration of the matter is necessary.
