Banbury armed raiders snatch watches worth £150,000

Police are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery in Banbury today.

At about 2.20pm, three men entered Michael Jones Jewellers in the High Street. They threatened four members of staff, a man and three women, with what is described as a handgun and an axe, and stole high value watches worth an estimated £150,000.

The offenders then left the shop, where a man driving a black Audi Estate was waiting, which then drove off in the direction of Broad Street.

The offenders are of Asian appearance and two were wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered. The third was dressed in a burkha.

Det Insp Steve Duffy said: “Thankfully nobody was injured during the robbery but obviously the staff have been left very shaken by what has happened. The getaway car was found abandoned shortly before 2.45pm in Western Crescent in the Hightown Road area of Banbury.

“I appeal to anyone who was in Banbury town centre today and has any information, however insignificant you think it may be, to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with information that could assist police enquiries is urged to contact Det Insp Duffy via the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police and don’t want to leave your name contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

Oh- and I saw a person matching that description in the Oracle Centre in Reading last week, and near Heyford Hill Sainsbury's on Sunday, and today on the Cowley Road. If the Police bring just the eye sections of their identikit round I'll be only too happy to help...
