A POLICE crackdown on drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol saw more than 300 arrests in one month.

Thames Valley Police revealed the figures today in relation to their Christmas campaign tackling drink and drug-driving, which ran from December 1 until January 1.

Officers made 316 arrests compared to 325 the previous year, and there was a rise in the number of drug-driving arrests.

Roads policing chief inspector Henry Parsons said he was 'disappointed' that so many people were found to be on drugs or over the alcohol limit.

He added: "The effects of it are so dangerous and it’s not worth the risk - there is no excuse for it.

“These figures show that we remain committed to targeting those who cause death on our roads and make the roads less safe than they should be.”
