GALE force winds are set to sweep in snow and rain across Oxfordshire from Friday night through Saturday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the severe conditions from 9pm on Friday onwards.

Officers warned that gusts up to 70mph are possible, with winds up to 50mph "likely".

Oxford Mail:

These are the same conditions that brought down trees and pulled roof tiles off homes across Oxfordshire this week, leaving some families devastated.

The Met Office said some snow may settle over higher ground this weekend and the worst affected areas in the country may see a few cm deep.

Ice will be a hazard on Saturday morning, particularly on higher ground.

Forecasters have warned drivers to be careful and said there is a likelihood of difficult driving conditions and possible travel disruption.

The Met Office has upgraded its forecast since it predicted snow last night.
