BANBURY MP Sir Tony Baldry was among the 10 MPs who had the highest earnings from outside interests last year, official data has shown.

According to the latest House of Commons Register of Members’ Financial Interests, he earned a total of £190,903 in 2014.

It placed him ninth among the top 10 highest earning MPs.

Sir Tony is a practising barrister and also holds a number of company directorships.

Between February 4, 2014, and February 3 this year, he registered £39,996 earned from work advising Woburn Energy plc.

And for his role as chairman of Kazakhstan Kagazy plc, an industrial holding, he earned £120,000 over the same period.

According to the Commons register, as associate director at Wener Capital LLP he received director’s fees of £5,000 in April 2014, as well as an advance payment of director’s fees from April to July 2014 of £20,000.

As a non-executive director of GNET Group plc, an e-commerce company in China, he received director’s fees of £4,239 in December and £10,000 last month.

Sir Tony told the Oxford Mail yesterday: “When I was first elected as Member of Parliament for Banbury in 1983, I was a practising barrister and a company director.

“I made it very clear at the last General Election that I had outside interests and if I were re-elected I intended to continue with those outside interests.”
