DAVID Cameron claimed improvements being done across the country would help relieve pressure on the A34.
The Government has pledged £50m worth of improvements on the road, including work at the junctions at Botley and Pear Tree, as well as new signs.
The Prime Minister said the roadworks would alleviate congestion, but other improvements as far north as Liverpool would also help.
He said: “It’s worth noting there are other things being done in completely different parts of the country which will affect the A34, the enormous investment in the docks at Liverpool, for example. If more freight arrives in Liverpool and the North is better serviced, we will have less lorries using the A34 from Southampton.
“There are lots of things being done to rebalance the country which will help relieve the pressure on the A34.”
