A LABOUR and Conservative councillor found one way to settle their political differences when they faced off over the dodgems at Banbury’s annual town centre fun fair.

Labour Banbury town mayor Sean Woodcock and Tory Alastair Milne Home, also chairman of Cherwell District Council, got in the hot seat at the Banbury Michaelmas Fair.

In keeping with tradition they opened the three-day event on Wednesday by taking a golden key around the rides to give visitors one free turn.

Mr Milne Home, also a member of Banbury Town Council, said: “It’s great to see the centre of Banbury come to life with the bright lights, loud music and large crowds the fair brings with it.”

Carousels and waltzers are included at the fair, held in Market Place, Bridge Street, North Bar and Horsefair.

Mr Woodcock, also a district councillor for Banbury Ruscote, said: “Banbury Fair may be one of the town’s oldest traditions, but it still remains one of the most popular. Every year thousands of people turn out to enjoy the rides, game stalls and food associated with this attraction.”
