AFTER 22 years of continuous operations in the Middle East, RAF Brize Norton’s 101 Squadron has handed over its duties. The squadron has been providing air-to-air refuelling using now 50-year-old VC10s since the first Gulf crisis in August 1990. They have been part of both Gulf wars and have most recently supported the Afghanistan conflict. The squadron handed over refuelling duties to RAF Brize Norton’s 216 Squadron, which operates Tristar aircraft, earlier this week.
