CHARLBURY’s charitable street fair kicked off this year with egg throwing and carried on in the same fashion.

The market town welcomed more than 50 stall holders and exhibitors while local bands and Morris dancers entertained crowds.

Eris Kola, five, from Rose Hill, tried his hand at Morris dancing on Saturday, pictured inset. He said: “I had dancing lessons, which were really fun.”

Teresa Laughton of the Wychwayz Border Morris group was teaching tiny dancers their first steps.

Mrs Laughton, 44, from Charlbury, said: “It is a great family day out. Charlbury is a small town but has a really strong community feeling.

“All sorts of people get involved, and the whole community gets together for one day.

“I just like to dance, it is a great social thing to do because you meet a lot of new people and you generally end up at a pub.”

Among the exhibitors were Snow White Ice Creams, Katy's Toybox, Bijoux Ladies’ Accessories and Six Impossible Things knitted toys.

The street fair and open gardens in Charlbury raise money for the town’s two community buildings; the Corner House and War Memorial Hall used for sporting events, dances, discos and society meetings. Organisers hope to match last year’s street fair total of £14,250 for the two institutions.
