The Scales of Justice: Recent cases at Oxfordshire magistrates' courts

SOME of the cases heard recently at Oxfordshire magistrates' courts:

OXFORD

  • John Agnew, 59, of Luther Street, Oxford, admitted shoplifting sherry valued at £5.60 from Sainsbury’s in Oxford on May 9. Fined £50, a £15 victims’ surcharge and £30 costs.
  • Gary McIntosh, 42, of no fixed address, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress in Thame on March 26. Told to pay £25 compensation.
  • Mark Quinn, 37, of Brookside, Abingdon, admitted possessing amphetamine (Class B) in Abingdon on April 3. Fined £110, a £15 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  • Paul Stevens, 18, of Park Corner, Nettlebed, admitted drink driving on the B480 at Henley on June 19. Had 64 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, above the legal limit of 35 micrograms. Fined £250, a £15 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs. Banned from driving for 17 months.

BANBURY

  • Kierra Daniels, 22, of Mortimer Square, Milton Keynes, admitted drink driving in South Bar Street, Banbury, on May 25. Had 92 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, above the legal limit of 80 milligrams. Fined £460, a £15 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs. Banned from driving for a year.
  • Stuart Malone, 31, of Griffith Road, Banbury, admitted failing to provide a breath test for analysis in Banbury on June 22 and commission of a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge and suspended sentence. Original offences were criminal damage and drunk and disorderly. Jailed for 16 weeks and banned from driving for three years.
  • Benjamin Marles, 27, of Middle Hill, Hook Norton, admitted possessing psilocin (Class A) and possessing cannabis (Class B) with intent to supply in Hook Norton on January 13. Given 220 hours’ unpaid work and told to pay £85 costs.
