DEDICATED Vera Campbell, 89, has been honoured as the longest- serving volunteer at a Banbury charity shop.
The grandmother, pictured, has been made a Cancer Research UK Honorary Fellow for her 23 years of service to its Parsons Street branch.
Her tenure – the longest in the shop’s history – was recognised at the charity’s Flame of Hope Awards at London’s Hotel Russell.
As she approaches her 90th birthday, Mrs Campbell still gets the bus into town every Monday and Wednesday to help price up items.
Shop manager Carole Clarke, who nominated her, said: “Vera keeps telling me it is time for her to stop but our shop would be a much duller place without her.”
Mrs Campbell, from Banbury, said: “I was a little bit surprised to receive an award. I didn’t think I had done enough for that.
“I have always enjoyed doing it and I still do.”
