A burglar who used a credit card he had stolen in a break-in was jailed under the “three strikes” provision.
Brian Debres was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday having earlier admitted one charge of burglary and three counts of fraud by false representation.
The 40-year-old smashed a pane of glass in the front door of a house in Prospect Road, Banbury, to gain access on November 27.
A neighbour, who knew the resident was away on holiday, raised the alarm when he saw the door ajar. Debres, of Bloxham Road, Banbury, took jewellery and items worth a total of £2,246. He also took a credit card and withdrew a total of £500 on November 27. A further transaction of £9.20 to buy a train ticket was also recorded.
Debres, who has two previous dwelling burglaries to his name, was jailed for a total of three years.
