A PROCESSION wound through Kennington yesterday as children and parents presented letters against library cuts to council chief Keith Mitchell.
Hundreds of campaigners, including children’s writer MG Harris and illustrator Korky Paul, met at St Swithun’s CofE Primary School to march to the centre of the village.
Kennington is one of 20 libraries across Oxfordshire set to lose funding under county council plans to save £2m over four years.
Demonstrators, led by flautist Frei Zinger, handed 600 letters from adults to Oxfordshire County Council leader Mr Mitchell, inset, as well as posters created by children in the village.
Campaigner Sylvia Vetta said she believed the council’s rhetoric was now changing.
She said: “I think Keith Mitchell saw that this is not party political, but just a community wanting to keep a library alive, with the school, the nursery, the vicar, businesses, and parents all here.
“From what we heard, the consultation on the future of the libraries now seems to be more genuine than in the past.”
Mr Mitchell told the group no decisions had been made but the council had to make huge savings.

Why, rickenback and BigAlBiker are you using this thread to comment on other matters? If you want to engage in a discussion about immigration within the OM's code of practice you'll have no problems. Those who post bigoted, ignorant, racist comments must expect to have their comments removed because they are in breach of the rules for civilised discussion on the OM site.
