AN Oxfordshire band is hoping its latest tune will become the unofficial anthem for England’s World Cup campaign.
Outraze have recorded This Is England and now want football supporters to start chanting it on the terraces.
The group reckons it has made a great start by getting Three Lions creator David Baddiel to back the tune.
He responded to a Twitter message from a fan of the band saying: “Yeah, I like it... I hope it does well.”
But so far, Outraze’s music has not impressed the Football Association, which showed the song a red card.
The band, which practises at Northgate Studios, in Banbury, includes Andy White, Elliott Talbot and James Campbell, who all live locally.
Ben Adams and Simon Hirons, former Banbury residents now living in Milton Keynes, complete the line-up.
Guitarist Mr Adams, 27, said: “We’re chuffed to bits that David Baddiel has heard the track and likes it.
“We were very disappointed when we got the email from the FA saying there was not going to be a World Cup song.
“I wouldn’t have thought it would have called on too much concentration from members of the England squad to just endorse a track.”
The track will be in shops from May 10.
He said: “What we really want people to do is join the Facebook group.
“Because the FA is not having an official song we want as many people as possible to get behind this.
“We’re getting support from all over the UK and from expats, but to have David Baddiel backing it is the icing on the cake.”
An email from the FA said: “The FA will not be endorsing an official song for World Cup 2010.
“The England management team has stressed that they want to concentrate on just football issues in the build-up to the tournament.”
