Travel agents deal with BA worries

TRAVEL agents across Oxfordshire were today fielding calls from travellers anxious about their British Airways flights, after cabin crews voted to strike over Christmas in a row over jobs, pay and conditions.

Yesterady, Union Unite announced the walkout from Tuesday, December 22, to Saturday, January 2.

Will you be affected by the strike?

British Airways has described the strike action as “completely unjustified” and said it was reworking flight schedules which may be affected.

Maureen Hall, customer services manager for Thomas Cook travel agents in Witney, said: “We have had lots of calls from customers who have flights booked with British Airways and we are now waiting to see which flights are going to be cancelled.

“This is devastating for customers who are looking forward to seeing their families.

“We are now trying to find flights for customers with other operators but we are finding that prices have trebled.”

A spokesman for Thomson at Templars Square, Cowley, Oxford, added: “We have had a few people coming into the shop seeking advice and will get more if the strike is definitely going to happen.”

BA was tonight seeking a court injunction to stop the strike.

Hopefully the strike will go ahead. There will be 2 outcomes, 1 that the workers will get fair terms and conditions at work, or 2 It brings B.A. Down, if it is the former then it is good news for all workers. If it is the latter, other airlines will expand and take on the staff whilst noting what will happen if they abuse their staff. Either way it is a win, win, situation for the working class, against massive opposition from a so called LABOUR government. Good luck to all of the strikers.

I have to disagree about some of your comments I am afraid.

Not many realise,BA Staff get paid practically double than any other airline and their perks are outstanding compared to other companies.

Due to the current ecconomic climate-they should be very grateful they have a job.It is so unfair.People who have brought tickets have worked exceptionally hard for less pay throught the year and need a break. This has been completley ruined by this selfish act.

I do hope the Airline sinks and then the workers will realise how tough real life working conditions really is when they found out they have lost their cushy job!

If the strike does go ahead BA are unlikely to ever recover. In fact, it may already be too late as even the threat of such action has put people off travelling with them.
Furthermore, I have to disagree with Mr McVey (comment above), the failure of BA will not be good for anyone, particularly the staff.
Whilst other airlines may expand to fill the any gap left by BA, these airlines are unliklely to be British or take on British crew. This is especially true given that BA crew are probably the best paid in the industry. The failure of BA would most likely leave a significant proportion of the staff out of work, and those who were able to find employment with other airlines will almost certainly be worse off financially.
Not a 'win-win' for anyone!!

All part of the master plan to erase the English race. In this Country now we are ruled by Europe. We cannot build anything, (Trains, Boats, Planes), produce anything (Coal, Steel, hardly any power) and we do not own anything. (Buses, Rail). BA is one of the last but that too is going. One thing we can do even though we are bust let every foreign benefit seeker milk our systems and help every lame duck nation under the sun provided it is not England.
