British Waterways workers have repaired damaged lock gates at the rear of Banbury's Castle Quay shopping centre after a holiday narrowboat damaged the gate, causing the canal to shut.
The accident happened last Wednesday during one of the busiest weeks of the summer for canal traffic.
Engineers had to build a temporary barrier in the water so they could drain the lock to pull out the boat. It is believed the canal boat's rudder was damaged.
Onlooker Amy Dancer, 27, of Kings Sutton, said: "I asked someone and they said it had been stuck for about four hours."
