Banbury's MP has described the team at a domestic abuse charity as "unsung heroes".

Victoria Prentis visited Oxfordshire's Reducing the Risk of Domestic Abuse at the Hill Sports Community Centre in Banbury last week.

Since it was founded in 2007, the charity has offered support to more than 2,500 domestic abuse victims and worked with several initiatives and services.

During her visit, Ms Prentis took part in a roundtable discussion with CEO Dawn Hodson and other members of the charity.

Ms Prentis said: "I had a thought-provoking discussion with the team at Reducing the Risk of Domestic Violence.

"Dawn, Emma, Stewart, Nikki and the rest of the team really are unsung heroes."

Ms Prentis learned about the work the charity does in helping victims navigate the criminal justice system.

The charity also coordinates a Domestic Abuse Champions Network across the nation, providing training and support to more than 2,300 front-line staff from various agencies and services.

She continued: "Domestic abuse is a very real issue that has devastating consequences for victims which is why the work that Dawn and the team do is so important.

"Reducing the Risk provide safe, confidential support for over 200 victims at high risk of harm and trauma each year, helping many of them to navigate the criminal justice system.

"Working in an extremely joined-up way, the team bring local partners and agencies together to ensure the safety and wellbeing of victims and survivors."
