A primary school headteacher is preparing to run in a third consecutive London Marathon.

Woodstock Primary School's Christian McGuinness will be running in support of the Injury Minimization Programme for Schools, an initiative of Oxford Hospitals Charity committed to children's safety education.

Mr McGuinness said: "I am taking on the enormous challenge of running the London Marathon."

He described the Injury Minimization Programme for Schools as a "fabulous organisation giving children the chance to make a difference".

Mr McGuinness added: "Injury Minimization Programme for Schools believe children should be given the opportunity to take personal responsibility for their own safety and that learning emergency life skills strengthens their confidence and self-esteem."

He added that during his 20 years as a teacher, he has "seen first-hand the charity's important work through their school and hospital visits", saying that these have a "hugely positive impact on children".

Mr McGuinness continued: "As a volunteer community first responder for South Central Ambulance Service, I know how important the basic life support and first aid skills that Injury Minimization Programme for Schools teach children are.

"Injury Minimization Programme for Schools have been regular visitors at Woodstock CE Primary School for many years, so I am delighted to be supporting the charity at the marathon."

Pupils at Woodstock Primary School will be taking part in the 'Mini London Marathon', which will see pupils run, jog or walk 2.6 miles at school between April 15 and May 10.
