A UK-based renewable energy company has unveiled an inspirational green project, the Climate Care Awards, at an Oxfordshire primary school.

The Awards scheme looks to foster environmental awareness and action among individuals of all ages. The initiative is a key part of the company's dedication to community engagement.

The Climate Care Awards' primary goal is to stimulate sustainable living, boost understanding of climate change and cultivate awareness of how individuals and communities can positively influence our planet's health.

Children are invited to work alongside their classmates and families to determine their carbon footprint then proceed to reduce it. This can be achieved through straightforward measures like turning off lights, buying from second-hand shops and growing own vegetables.

For now, the Awards will commence in primary schools, but the plan is to roll out the initiative to secondary schools as well as higher education and adult groups subsequently.

The rewards at the heart of this initiative are separated into three categories: Bronze (Awareness), Silver (Action), and Gold (Leadership). Upon successfully achieving each level, the pupils will receive a badge to celebrate their accomplishments.

Charlbury Primary School in Oxfordshire is one of the early adopters, incorporating Climate Care Club events into their weekly timetable.

These sessions are designed to accomplish the award targets, offering a blend of theoretical learning and practical activities related to the carbon cycle, personal carbon footprints, carbon capture and renewable energy.

The participants who complete their Climate Care Awards will be honoured with badges during a term assembly.

The company behind the awards, RCE, assigns Community Partnership Coordinators to establish relationships within each community, aiming to discover local ideas and initiatives that will substantially and concretely benefit the area.

Marjorie Glasgow BEM, Co-founder and CEO of Ridge Clean Energy said: "Climate change might seem like too big a challenge for any one individual to take on, especially a child, but we know that cutting down our individual carbon emissions does make a difference.

"We are thrilled to be encouraging younger schoolchildren to help us mitigate the effects of climate change through the Climate Care Awards, helping new generations shape the future of their planet."

Mrs Kirstie Mahony, Year 3 Teacher and Sustainability Lead at Charlbury Primary School, said: "We are delighted that Ridge Clean Energy have launched the Climate Care Awards here with us at Charlbury Primary School.

"Our pupils are passionate about the environment and want to do all they can to make a difference. The Climate Care Awards will show their commitment to the cause and allow them to lead by example."
