More than 200 people took part in Wallingford's annual litter pick.

Litter pickers gathered at the Regal building in the town centre on Saturday (March 16) and were given bags, gloves and Hi-Viz vests before being directed to different locations around the town.

Mark Brett, chairman of charity group Wallingford 1155, which organises the annual event, said it was a great success.

He added: "We filled a flat bed truck with rubbish quite a few times - I think we collected about 10-15,000 litres of waste.

Oxford Mail: Litter pickers"Lots of parents came along to volunteer with their kids and from a volunteering point of view it's good for your mental health - you're out in the fresh air socialising."

Brightwell Scouts were among those who volunteered, together with representatives from Crowmarsh Parish Council.

Mr Brett added that lots of dog waste bags were removed from trees where they had been hung up by their owners.

And McDonalds cartons were picked up from the side of the A4074 at Crowmarsh.

Oxford Mail: A young litter picker"Customers get McDonalds at Benson and then by the time they have reached Crowmarsh they are ready to chuck the cartons out of the car window - they can't be bothered to take them home."

The litter pick ran from 8am until midday.

Mr Brett added: "It really smartens up the town - it's great to see the verges looking smart and clean - everyone should take pride in their town."

Wallingford 1155 was formed in 2008 to continue the work of the Round Table in and around the town.
