With plants from cacti to cornflowers, an impressive walk-through orchid tunnel and even a magical flower nymph, this year’s Blenheim Palace Flower Show is set to be the most colourful event of the summer.

Set in the stunning grounds of Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, the event is back for its sixth year with organisers sowing the seeds for the biggest and most spectacular show in the event’s history.

“It is a celebration of all things gardening and plants in the wonderful surroundings of Blenheim Palace,” says show manager Mig Kimpton.

Packed with inspiration, flowers, plants and everything you need for your home and garden, the three-day event includes flower displays, show gardens, expert advice, food and drink, shopping, live entertainment, plus some famous faces.

Officially opened by BBC plantswoman Carol Klein tomorrow, the show will give visitors the chance to ask the horticultural expert for advice and tips during Q&A sessions in the Gardening Talks Theatre.

“Carol is a plant guru and we’re delighted to welcome her to this year’s show,” says Mig.

“She knows everything from one end of a plant to the other and the audience can ask her any question regarding plants – she’s extremely entertaining too.”

The flower show itself is set within the Oxfordshire UNESCO World Heritage Site’s Capability Brown landscaped parkland and boasts formal gardens created over the centuries by esteemed garden designers such as Henry Wise and Achille Duchene.

The Grand Floral Pavilion will form the centrepiece of the show and feature the UK’s finest nurseries and growers, giving expert advice and gardening ideas, all competing to win the coveted Best in Show award.

Outside the pavilion is the brand new orchid tunnel, showcasing almost 1,000 exotic orchids from all over the world and a collection of tropical plants, in a display created by Mig.

“The orchid tunnel is brand new this year and is going to be 30ft long and 16ft wide,” he says.

“It’s taken us three days to create the tunnel and will be a stunning addition to this year’s event.”

As well as the Grand Floral Pavilion, visitors will be able to encounter beautiful show gardens, with individual designs from Bee’s Garden, Brannford Garden Makers and Bridewell Gardens, which is part of a mental health charity based in Chipping Norton.

“We welcome entries and gardens from all over and it’s a wonderful chance to showcase some great charities,” says Mig.

This year’s event will also see a record number of exhibitors selling everything from unique garden gazebos, greenhouses and arbours to gardening sundries and hundreds of other products.

Visitors will be able to pick up crafts and gifts as well as indulgent treats like flapjacks, fine cheeses and oils.

Fans of Saturday Kitchen will also be able to see TV chef Glynn Purnell teaming up with Calvet Wines in the Rue de Calvet, where he’ll be pairing up the award-winning wines with some of his favourite dishes.

Only Fools and Horses star John Challis (aka Boycie) will also be at the show as a special guest meeting visitors for the full three days.

Then there will be live music and special appearances from Floris, the mystical flower nymph who will be gliding through the show inside her Enchanted Flower Globe, providing captivating entertainment for all ages.
