THE SISTER of a man stabbed to death in a Banbury flat last year said there were ‘no words’ for what killer Raymond Morgan had done to her family.

She was speaking at the 53-year-old’s sentencing at Oxford Crown Court today, in which he was told he would spend at least the next 19 years in prison as part of a life sentence.

Yesterday, Morgan, of Newland Road, Banbury, was unanimously found guilty of one count of murder against Mark Pawley, 25. He was acquitted of killing Adrian Fannon, 39.

During the trial, which began last week, the jury of seven women and five men were told that Mr Pawley had been found with at least 20 stab wounds on Morgan’s living room floor on October 1, 2017.

Mr Fannon, who suffered nearly a dozen stab wounds, was found naked and slumped against a TV stand in the same room.

Before Morgan’s sentence was revealed, Mr Pawley’s older sister Jade Pawley read out an impact statement to the court.

She said: “There are no words for what you Raymond Morgan have done to me and my family.

“Mark was my baby brother but he was also a son, a dad, a grandson, a cousin, a nephew, a godfather and a friend. So many things to so many people.

“On October 1, 2017, my brother was brutally butchered and beaten, there has been no remorse and no care about what happened to him.”

She added: “You can sleep, eat, talk, smile and laugh but my brother will never have the chance to do that again.

“He will never be able to make memories with his family and friends or even feel the sun on his face or the air on his skin again.”

The mother-of-three said their grandfather had died shortly after Mr Pawley’s murder and the whole family were struggling to deal with the grief, feeling they had "lost everything".

She added: “Mark towered above us but he was always our little brother.”

There was loud applause as Ms Pawley, who read her written statement with shaking hands, finished.

Sentencing, Judge Ian Pringle QC said: “We will never know precisely what took place in that living room on October 1, but one thing is for sure, namely that there was extreme violence meted out to Mark Pawley and Adrian Fannon.”

Speaking of Morgan’s chronic drug addiction, and Mr Pawley and Mr Fannon's use of drugs, he added: “I hope this is a lesson to anyone who uses crack cocaine and heroin of the violent mood swings that may be induced from living such a chaotic lifestyle.”

The judge said that although the minimum sentence he could impose was 15 years, the crime was aggravated by the "savage and prolonged" nature of the attack on Mr Pawley, which included the use of two knives and at least 20 stab wounds.

There were cries of "murderer" and "scum" as Morgan's 19-year sentence was announced by the judge.
