ARTWORK by notorious prisoner Charles Bronson which an Oxfordshire action group had pulled from an auction has been sold for over £500.

Homes4All is understood to have had five paintings sold on behalf of the group as part of an online auction.

It opened a homeless shelter in the former Lush store in Cornmarket this month before it abruptly closed.

The Oxford Mail and BBC Oxford were told the paintings had been pulled from the auction, only for the Witney-based group to decide it would sell them after all a few days later.

Initially it had been hoped the auction would be held in the former Lush store on January 27.

But the shelter was closed earlier this month after charity Wash My Pink Jumper said it was no longer supporting Homes4All.

Lush moved into the Westgate Centre in October, leaving behind the vacant unit. The company boarded it up initially but put Homes4All in charge after an outcry.

In a post on the Homes4All Auction Facebook page, it is stated: “The Charlie Salvador Art today sold via EBay for £529.21!!!

“This will be added to our auction total next week 😍😍😍

“Thank you to all who bid and we'll done to the winners. I will post out this week x”.

Other items donated include Taylor's 325th anniversary port and a box of wine, donated by PD Hook (Hatcheries) Ltd, of Bampton.

A stainless steel lantern has been donated by Loft in Woodstock.

On January 10 Homes4All founder Deborah Robson-Grey apologised to Bronson for 'upset and harm' which she said it thought it had caused him after the group said it wouldn't sell the art off.

She wrote: "I am truly sorry for the response that you have received from us. We are grateful for your act of goodwill and your generosity in offering us your artwork.”

She added: “I hope that you will accept my apology, and are still willing to support us, by allowing us to auction off your paintings.”
