ANTI-NUCLEAR activists in Oxfordshire are planning to protest outside a US Air Force base tomorrow.

The local Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) members are planning to demonstrate outside USAF Croughton on the Northamptonshire border near Banbury, and have called on locals to join them.

Dubbing their protest 'Stop the Militarisation of Space', the group says the US is planning to spend £200m transforming Croughton into one of the country's largest international intelligence hubs'.

Oxford CND says the base is involved in space communications, data links, military drone information, bomber guidance, missile defence and diplomatic communications.

The group said: "The march and rally is to protest at this expenditure to turn this base into a ‘major intelligence base’ over the next few years.

"1,250 extra US personnel will move onto the site to run the new Joint Intelligence Analysis Centre (JIAC)."

The group has invited supporters to hop on board its minibus to Croughton, leaving St Giles, Oxford, at 10.45am and then Oxford Railway Station at 11am.
