A budding poet from East Oxford has won a national poetry competition.
Amineh Abou Kerech, a 13-year-old Syrian refugee who attends Spires Academy, won the Betjemen Poetry Prize with her poem entitled 'Lament for Syria.'
More than 2,000 young people, aged 10-13, entered the competition which accepts poems on the theme of place.
Another student at the school, 12-year-old Jemima Webster, was another finalist with her poem 'The School Playground'.
Amineh receives a £500 prize with an extra £500 given to her school.
