TEDDY bears braced to leap from the skies with the RAF Falcons parachute display team had their brave feat cancelled due to poor weather conditions.

Members of the team were supposed to make the jump into Carterton with the bears yesterday afternoon, but wind and rain put paid to the jump.

Instead, members of the Falcons appeared at Carterton Town Hall and presented the teddies to children from the town.

Officer Commanding, Flight Lieutenant Simon Owen, had previously taken part in the Teddy Bears’ Picnic event, which gives children in the town a chance to see their own soft toys soaring through the sky.

He said: “Children absolutely love it. They find it amazing to think their own teddy bear just jumped out of a plane and landed right in front of them.

“It was disappointing not to be able to jump – especially with a lot of expectant children.

“But we went to our wet weather plan and the children enjoyed getting the chance to meet the team and to get up close and personal with the Falcons.”

Ted Little’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic has been held for several years and is used to maintain the strong relationship between the town and RAF Brize Norton.
