DO you have the voice to help light up the city’s Christmas Light Festival?

It may only be September but Oxford City Council are urging choirs from across the county to get in touch to be a part of the holiday celebrations.

The Light Festival itself will take place between Friday 17 and Sunday 19 November, bringing more than 35,000 people together to enjoy a lantern parade and late night themed openings at museums and arts centre.

As part of the festival there will be a Sing Christmas event on both the Saturday and Sunday, giving choirs the chance to perform in outdoor and indoor spaces across the city.

City events officer Rachel Capell said: “We are looking for choirs to perform a set of 30 minutes to really showcase your repertoire that are happy to brave the elements and sing acoustically.

“We would love to give choirs the opportunity to perform more than once, so please do let us know how many performances you’d like to do.

“With a projected audience of 70,000 across the weekend this will be a great profile raising opportunity providing a great platform for local groups and singers to really shine.”

The council are also calling for artists to come forward to work with community groups and schools as well as help from volunteers during the festival to guide the public to the different events and activities.

Throughout the weekend, visitors will be able to enjoy a festive market in Broad Street, offering Christmas-themed gifts, local ales, mulled wine and plenty of produce from the county.

Last year a group of huge, blue sonic spheres appeared in Oxford’s streets throughout the festival as part of an art installation called ‘Colony’.

And giant illuminated puppets Xalia and Atom strolled across the city centre throughout the evenings.
