TWO weeks of concerted efforts to clean up the Greater Leys housing estate are to be launched by Oxford City Council officers.

Together with local housing associations Catalyst and Greensquare, the council will concentrate its resources on the estate as part of the next Clean Green Oxford campaign from today.

Apart from general street and site cleansing staff will be removing graffiti, clearing any instances of fly-tipping and getting rid of any abandoned vehicles found across the area.

In addition to cleaning the campaign also aims to tackle environmental issues through education and enforcement.

Teams will be out and about talking to residents and tenants to find out what they think the main recycling and waste issues are on the estate.

John Tanner, Oxford City Council’s board member for a clean and green Oxford, said: “This is the latest in our series of campaigns.

“We are determined to make sure Oxford stays a clean and green place for everyone.

“By concentrating our efforts in one area for a fortnight we can make a tangible difference to the quality of life of those who live there.

“The city council wants to work with residents, businesses and housing associations to make Greater Leys an even better place to live than it already is.

“We’ll be giving the area an intensive wash and brush up, as well as encouraging people not to drop litter or allow their dogs to foul in the first place.”
