IT’S either a bad April Fools or the worst PR stunt ever.
Greenpeace activists in Oxford crowed that they had taken action against ‘illegal pollution levels’ in cars by pasting ‘health warnings’ to the cars at three car dealerships in Kidlington on Saturday, April 1.
The only problem was, no one noticed.
The Greenpeace Oxford group shared photographs showing members sticking notices to cars with slogans such as ‘diesel harms your health’.
The activists said they visited Harwell Ford, Marshall Volkswagen and Inchcape Mercedes Benz, all on Langford Lane, ‘to make potential buyers aware of the illegal pollution many new diesel cars give out’.
However, staff at the Ford and Mercedes garages who were at work on Saturday said they did not see the Greepeace campaigners or their stickers, while the Marshall Volkswagen garage was not bothered enough to comment on the story.
Greenpeace Oxford group member Emma Tinker said: “The car industry has been caught out rigging pollution tests, and selling us diesels that are unsafe and harm our health.”
