OXFORD United fans have been urged to join former players to raise money for the club’s charity at a pre-match party at Wembley on Sunday.

The Yellow Army fans’ group has hired out the Crystal Rooms - a venue just minutes from the U’s side of the ground - and ex-players Paul Moody and Joey Beauchamp have already been confirmed.

The event, which will begin from 10am on Sunday, will raise money for Oxford United Community Trust, a charity which runs a number of project with children and adults across Oxfordshire.

Joe Nicholls, of the Yellow Army, said: “An opportunity came about to hire the venue, right by our end at Wembley.

“After looking at all the options for our fans on the day, we decided to go ahead so we can put something special on for all fans.

He added: “It really is an event for everyone and will also provide an opportunity for us to raise £2,000 for our community trust.”

As the fans have hired the venue they can set their own drinks deals, four cans of beer will cost £10 and there will be offers on spirits.

Curry, a BBQ and chips will also be laid on and there will be a dedicated family room complete with face painting.

The club’s managing director Greig Box Turnbull said: “The Community Trust does so much invaluable work across the county, which makes a marked difference to so many youngsters, through the powerful medium of football and Oxford United.

“Fundraising is crucial to ensuring we maintain and develop our first class delivery and support in our communities.

“We are so thankful to the supporters who are organising this event and to everyone who is attending.

“It’s a brilliant way for supporters to come together pre-match to enjoy the vibe and the day, and raising money for the club’s charity is a fantastic bonus.”

Tickets cost £7.50 for adults - to cover the cost of hiring the pub - but children are free, and can be booked at oufctickets.co.uk to be collected at the venue in South Way, Wembley, which opens from 10am.
