TRIBUTES have been paid to terminally-ill Oxford United fan Steve Dyer, who has died aged 60.
It comes after Mr Dyer, who had been diagnosed with bladder cancer, was moved to a hospice in the USA last Friday.
His wife Carol said he had reached a point where there were no more treatments.
Doctors previously told Mr Dyer he had just four months to live in November 2015.
But the lifelong U's fan still made the 3,200-mile round trip from his home in New Hampshire to watch the team play at Wembley, London, last year.
This morning Liz Seeney, a family friend of the Dyers, wrote on the Oxford United Fans Facebook page: "It's with great sadness for me to put this on here.
"But our one and only Steve Dyer passed away last night.
"He is now at peace and no more pain. Oxford utd please please keep winning for steve dyer."
Speaking to the Oxford Mail this morning, she added: "Steve was a lovely man. I have not seen him since September but will miss him.
"He was a great fighter and followed Oxford United to the end."
Oxford United recently honoured Mr Dyer by naming him on its official team sheet until the end of the season.
Just hours before his death the Football League agreed for his name to be on the official Checkatrade Trophy matchday programme next month.
This morning the club paid tribute to the Oxford-born father-of-three as an 'inspiration to all'.
The club's statement said: "Thoughts are with the family of Steve Dyer who passed away overnight.
"He fought bravely and his positivity is an inspiration to all."
The Yellow Army supporters' group today said it would remember Mr Dyer 'in the 12th minute at Wembley' when United face Coventry City on Sunday, April 2.
A post on the Oxford United fans Facebook also said: "Rest in Peace to our 12th man Steve Dyer.
"We want to put our thoughts to his friends and family at this hard time."
Sad news. Rest in Peace, Steve Dyer. Our thoughts are with you and your family. We will remember you in the 12th minute at Wembley! #oufc pic.twitter.com/Rz53D7XTXI
