BARELY a week goes by that this newspaper does not report on yet another person killed or badly injured on our roads.

Each time it is not just the victim who is affected but their family and friends, who have their lives changed forever in a split second.

In the vast majority of cases lives are lost needlessly because of the selfish actions of another driver.

Too many people still get behind the wheel and treat the road like a racing track, or think it is acceptable to have a few glasses of wine and drive home.

Their reckless decisions can change lives and they deserve to be punished.

Oxford Mail:

Earlier this year Tomasz Kroker (pictured) wiped out four lives in an instant – all because he wanted to change music on his phone – and yet he was jailed for just 10 years.

It is true that Kroker will have to live with his actions forever, but so will the victims' families.

The punishment must fit the crime, and the current maximum sentence of 14 years for those convicted of causing death by dangerous driving is simply not long enough.

The loved ones of those killed by dangerous drivers have shown dignity and patience as they have campaigned for things to change.

The Government has finally listened and it is now time to make sure the law changes and that dangerous drivers are given the punishment they deserve.
