THE speed limit in some parts of Great Western Park in Didcot could be reduced to 20mph today.

It is set to be reduced from 30mph within the Northern and District neighbourhoods of the estate.

Previously town councillor, Margaret Davies, said the measures would be a good thing for the area.

She said: "This is a great idea for the development as safety of residents is paramount.

"If the town council had been consulted about it earlier we could have looked at introducing these traffic measures to other parts of the town."

County Councillor Nick Hards said the speed limit restriction was "essential".

However, not all the proposals have been welcomed by residents.

The county council also want to introduce a 'no waiting at any time' parking restriction along Sir Frank Williams Avenue and into the adjoining side streets.

In their objections to the consultation, residents feared they would lose parking for them and their visitors.

Concerns were also raised that the restriction could lead to disputes between residents over inconsiderate parking.

But the county council has decided the measure is necessary to allow safe passage of vehicles through the development.

There are also plans to introduce a one hour parking provision for loading lorries along the University Technical College access road.

Full funding for the proposal has been secured from the developer of the

development.

The public meeting will be held at 10am at the County Hall in New Road.
