2. Heatwave: Direct London to Oxford trains cancelled due to hot weather

Hot weather has been blamed after Great Western Railway cancelled all direct trains between London and Oxford.

Passengers have been told to change at Didcot after the changes were made to allow speed restrictions to be put in place.

Network Rail said the restrictions would be in place between 1.30pm and 7pm today as rail track temperatures are set to soar to more than 50C.

3. Oxford UnitedOxford United release goalkeeper Sam Slocombe

The shot stopper has been released by Oxford United after agreeing a settlement on the remaining 12 months of his contract.

The goalkeeper, who joined last summer, is expected to sign for a Sky Bet League Two club shortly.

4. Magnifying glass starts blaze in Banbury sewing machine shop window display

Fire fighters battled through thick smoke to extinguish a blaze at a sewing machine shop in Banbury.

The fire broke out in GTS Sewing Machines in Mewburn Road at about 8.30pm yesterday after the sun's rays shone through a magnifying glass in the front window display.

When crews arrived they found the building full of smoke and a fire within the shop window.

5. Man jailed for four years for Didcot robbery and assault

A man who assaulted and robbed a teenager in Didcot has been jailed for four years.

Charlie Abery, of Blake's Field in the town, pleaded guilty at Oxford Crown Court on Friday to one charge of robbery and one charge of causing actual bodily harm.

The 19-year-old attacked his 17-year-old victim in Cow Lane in Didcot on June 16 and robbed him.
